In 2003, five friends decided to start their own Greek organization founded upon friendship. They named it Alpha Delta Omega and the sorority grew. The founding sisters wanted Alpha Delta Omega to eventually become affiliated with another National Panhellenic organization, but they knew their dream would not be fulfilled while they were collegians.
In 2006, Alpha Delta Omega officially became open for extension by the National Panhellenic Conference and in 2007 three organizations showed interest in Alpha Delta Omega and the Columbus State campus. Alpha Omicron Pi was one of those groups and instantly became the favorite of the sisters.
AOII was a perfect fit!
In 2007, AOII was selected by the sisters and they began the process of colonization. There were PR events, parties, and a lot of hard work but 20 women were inducted on October 26, 2007 and the group eventually expanded to 29.
Under the guidance of Resident Consultant Katie Sullivan, the colony grew and by-laws and traditions were written down. The chapter name was chosen to be Delta Lambda: the "Delta" was taken from Auburn University's Delta Delta chapter in honor and appreciation for helping the Columbus State sisters with the colonization process, and the "Lambda" for the other chapters in Georgia who's designations have "Lambda" in them. Our submotto is "Devotion and Love" which corresponds with our chapter name.
Delta Lambda was installed as AOII's 185th collegiate chapter on April 19, 2008.
